Kenai Peninsula Alaska Chapter #8150

The Three Rules

1. BE SEEN: Stay out of the blind spots that all vehicles have. This is especially true when passing or coming up on a vehicle from behind and to the side. And following too closely will keep oncoming vehicles from seeing you. Use your blinkers and brake lights plenty early before making any moves, and remember that motorists often have trouble seeing motorcycles and reacting correctly even when you are doing everything right.

2. BE PREDICTABLE: Whether you’re riding down the highway or traveling through a crowded parking lot, do what vehicle drivers expect you to do. Drivers expect you to act normally within their own non-motorcycle experiences. If you do something unexpected they won’t know how to react.

3. BE PARANOID: Always be aware of what’s going on around you. Remember drivers may have trouble seeing you, so drive defensively. Constantly search the road for changing conditions. Remember the only thing between you and the road could be your protective gear. And keep your head in the game.

I would add one thing to this list — get the proper training so you’re capable and ready to handle any situation..
